Building yet another Website
So right after I built my rough portfolio on a wordpress template, I decided I needed to build an actual site before sending out any more internship applications.
So I learned a bit of dreamweaver from lynda.com (you’ll need a membership, which MIT gives students access to). Coupled that with my rudimentary skills of css and html, and extra help from my programmer-savvy friends.
I almost...

First Summer Internship Application Done!
I finished my portfolio and sent off my first application to a firm. Crossing fingers is cheesy, tacky, and superstitious…but I did it anyways.
One down and…god knows how many more. I’m actually terrified at the thought of applying to places only to find out no design firm will take me. It’s a good thing I decided not to apply to architecture internship this year…I...

Castaway on the Moon
If you may recall, I always talk about my love for foreign movies. It’s something to experience, when you get to see a story set in an unfamiliar background.
This critically acclaimed Korean film follows Mr. Kim, a man who recently was dumped by his girlfriend, and has an outstanding debt to loan sharks in the hundreds of thousands. He decides to take his life to end it all by jumping off a...

Lego Could Use Your Input on Their Next...
The Lego Architecture series features great buildings from around the world. Gregory Johnson’s Empire State Building, Frank Loyd Wright’s Falling Water and Carl Gotthard Langhans’ Brandenburg Gate are just a few examples of structures featured in the series. Jenny Williams wrote a great review of theRobie House set this past November.
Well now Lego needs some help deciding on the next...

The end of Mahler’s Ninth Symphony contains some of the most spiritual and peaceful music ever written. So when a cellphone began ringing – and ringing, ringing, ringing without cease – during a performance by the New York Philharmonic on Tuesday evening, Alan Gilbert did something conductors virtually never do. He stopped the performance.

Bone Marrow Kit!
A few weeks back I said I was going to order one of those swab kits to get put into the bone marrow registry.
Well, it finally arrived! I’m going to send it off in the mail soon and be thrown in the registry! And then if the need ever arises…well. We’ll take it from there.

I think the military need stricter screening policies. A kid who wants to join the military because it reminds him of the Modern Warfare games or redneck racist teenagers who like to bully others, aren’t fit for combat. That’s just it.

Peking Duck...or whatever.
After the successful preparation and cooking of the Thanksgiving turkey, I decided to try my hand with duck for this past Christmas dinner.
What are the good qualities of a well-roasted duck?
Thoroughly cooked
Crispy skin, glistening with fat and crackling
Fall off the bone quality
So I looked it up, and found two sites:
The Hungry Mouse: Steps on how to create the perfect crispy skin
All...

The MIT Challenge
Scott Young who set out to teach himself the entire Computer Science curriculum at MIT online. Within one year.
Over the next 12 months, I’m going to learn the entire 4-year MIT curriculum for computer science, without taking any classes.
There are just a few things I have problem with that plan…
Read his blog: http://www.scotthyoung.com/blog/mit-challenge/
Sure, he admits on his...

Bananas. Healthy or a Sexual Metaphor?
Ever since I’ve been at home my mom has forced me to eat two bananas every day.
I expect that by the time I leave, I’ll have either turned into a monkey or just have a strong affinity for anything long and curvy that I can put my mouth on.
My mom says it helps digestion and is a potent source of potassium, but I know better.
I think she’s trying to turn me gay.

I find it interesting that I sleep more in one day at home than I’ve done in a week at MIT. Funny how college can sap the life out of you sometimes.

Conversations with the Lin Family
Mom: There was this recent study on empathy in animals. It showed rats releasing other rats trapped in cages without any incentive.
Me: That's why we buy lethal mousetraps. Take no survivors.
Dad: You know, I'd say that pigs are one of the smartest animals.
Brother-in-law: Too bad they're so tasty.

The Art of Writing and Speaking Eloquently
I was up late last night stalking my major advisor and found an abstract that she wrote of one of her recent exhibitions.
The work, labeled “Ports and Ships” is described with such rhetoric that it gives a grounding voice to her series of photographs:
Here are photographs of cargo vessels, anchored in ports or waiting in position to enter their port of call, loaded with unknown...

I’m being a lazy bum watching this movie, and it’s hilarious. This movie is so chock full of inappropriate sexual innuendos I doubt any little kid would come out of it unscathed.
Here’s a few dialogues that I remember:
“It’s a boy!” “…That’s it’s tail”
“Lemme tell you about the time I turned a T-rex into a...

Don't Get Pregnant
So I’ve been taking this intense acne medication called Claravis (you might know the similar drug called Accutane). Both are Isotretinoins (whatever that means), and the complexity of their name pretty much indicates the dangers of taking this drug.
So dangerous in fact, that I need to pass several government checks each month in order to get a new batch of the medication.
Apparently the...

Little girl: Daddy do you have to work the whole time?
Dad: I'll be around. What do you want me to do?

MIT Wages War
With army men.
As students walked down the Infinite Corridor today for the last day of classes, they were met with the latest hack.
Little army men lined the entire hallway in a defiant face against the upcoming finals week. An uplifting message to those students stressed about the end of the term.
Hackers even left a portrait of the president outside her door made up of little army men.

Motorcycles
Occasionally I spend my study breaks browsing around, “oohing” and “ahhing” at motorcycles.
These modern bikes, like this 2009 Suzuki Gladius do look pretty awesome for modern bikes.
But on the other hand, getting a vintage bike like this vintage Royal Enfeld Bullet Electra bike is equally badass in a different nature.
Why vintage you may ask? Besides the fact that I...
